RIFTBRINE operates from Outpost BR-7, a pressurized module planted 400m above Subglacial Lake Vostok West, Antarctica. Eight drillers live on rotated shifts of 90 days. The drill string runs 3,280m down through the East Antarctic Ice Sheet. We don't design games. We core them — extract a cylinder, date the bands, and listen to the trapped air.
Each title begins as a core sample. We slice it into 1m sections, scan for volcanic ash (event markers), measure δ¹⁸O (interaction temperature), and crush a small aliquot to release the ancient atmosphere. That released air becomes the game's soundtrack. The oldest layer we've played back contains methane from a forest that predates *Homo sapiens*. It hums.
The outpost runs on reactor heat and resentment. Comms go through a geostationary relay twice a day. We mark "ship dates" by stratigraphic age, not calendar — *Firn Drift* shipped at 0–12ka, *Basal Brine* is dated 320–400ka and won't clear review until the drill bit melts into the lake. The ice doesn't hurry. Neither do we.
